The dynamics of the informal city and the prospects of spontaneous urban practices.
Cycle "Re-think Athens"
October 2013, Onassis Cultural Centre. Athens

Event curated by Panos Dragonas, Architect & Associate Professor at the University of Patras.

The vitality of a city is largely determined by the ability of public spaces to accommodate unforeseen events and trigger the participation of citizens. Non-institutionalized and top-down designed informal activities are an important component of a bustling metropolis everyday life. Informal activities run in parallel and independently of the organized institutions of a city. They often provide new qualities in the urban space, which cannot be predetermined by formal planning.
