Situations, Co-existences, Commons. Maria Papadimitriou

The book covers the diverse art practices of one of the most influential and, internationally renowned Greek artists, Maria Papadimitriou. Papadimitriou since the 1990s has been in the international scene working in the context of relational art form, political imagination, community co-existence, gender and artistic research. The book does not aim to describe nor portray an artist as usually seen in artist catalogs; but focuses on the multiple art practices of Papadimiriou in order to open further conceptual frames.

The content of the book consists of various selected artworks combined with discursive commissioned texts by Peter Lang, Hou Hanru, Sotirios Bahtsetzis, Marco Scotini, Yorgos Tzirtzilakis and others. With chapters like In Situ, The Commons, Chora, Dissemination, Dialogues and Femininity the book not only aims to present an artist and her practice but also engage in discussion of global concepts between various disciplines. These include geography, sociology, architecture, music, art history, economy, anthropology or NGO workers. As the content aims to deal with everyday life issues and the role of the imagination in art, the practice of Maria Papadimitriou provides new horizons on these matters.
